18.4 SECRETS OF SERVICE ACCESS
To discourage unauthorized use, certain models are equipped with a hidden on/off switch. Many Litton and Sharp models use a rocker switch, which is concealed just beneath the timer panel. Older push-button Amana models use a small toggle switch located inside of a small rectangular opening just under the front edge of the pushbutton timer. At times, these switches may be inadvertently turned off during cleaning or transporting. Then, when someone attempts to use the oven, it appears to be dead. Therefore, when a commercial oven owner calls for service on a "dead" Sharp or Litton model, two obvious questions are: "Does the electrical outlet have power?" And, "Has the operator checked the oven's [hidden] main on-off switch?"
AMANA: To remove the outer case from Amana RC, RV, MC and similar models, proceed as follows. Unfasten the six hex-head screws around the back panel, pull the outer case back toward you and then lift it off. Older models employ a rear-panel interlock switch (Fig. 18-1--not shown in this excerpt) that disables the oven when the rear cover is removed. The transformers, diodes, capacitors and other power-supply components are located in the lower power supply section. Gain access by locating and removing the two 1/4-inch hex-head screws that secure the oven cavity to the base pan mounting flange as shown in Figure 18-2 (be very careful of sharp edges). Then, carefully slide the top section forward. Do not slide the top section too far forward or attached wires and terminals may pull loose or be damaged.
